Founded in 1993, Z Space is a hub for artists and audiences to revel in the creation, development, and production of outstanding new work. We pursue our mission through three core programs: Z Plays, Word for Word, and Youth Arts. We commission, develop, and produce a full season of new works from each of these programs. We foster opportunities around the nation for these works and for their Bay Area artists. We engage diverse audiences through direct interaction with the process, the projects, and the artists. In addition, Z Space manages and operates the performing arts venue formerly known as Theater Artaud: home to more than 40 weeks of public multidisciplinary arts programming annually.

LEVYdance and The Foundry present:
Low Down
$18 - $50 | TICKETS <http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/237619>
Low Down is a creative collaboration between San Francisco based companies LEVYdance <http://www.levydance.org> and The Foundry. LEVYdance Artistic Director, Benjamin Levy, and The Foundry Artistic Director, Alex Ketley, have engaged both companies together in the studio to mutually explore the ideas of communication and narrative. The artists are using both found and invented texts as inspiration for choreographic exercises, and, together, are focusing on syntax, context, rhythm, and meaning to generate movement material. The creative process integrates the aesthetics of both choreographers and infuses the work with the performance sensibilities of both companies, producing a unified production that is entirely new.

DES VOIX …FOUND IN TRANSLATION <http://www.desvoixfestival.com> is an exciting collaboration between Playwrights Foundation, a legendary new play development organization in San Francisco, and the Maison Antoine Vitez (MAV) <http://www.maisonantoinevitez.fr/> , the International Centre for Drama Translation in Paris, in an exchange that exposes the work of the newest and most innovative contemporary playwrights to audiences in both countries, sharing ideas and perspectives of today’s world, and increasing and deepening cultural exchanges between France and the U.S.
The U.S. Festival will feature a full weekend of staged readings of new plays by three of the most innovative emerging playwrights in France today <http://www.desvoixfestival.com/us-festival/the-plays/> — translated by the Bay Area’s fiercest artist/scholars, directed and performed by top Bay Area talent. The festival will also include, for the first time in the U.S., a Bal Litteraire – a New Play Night Club, imported directly from the French Avant-Garde, and, for the philosophically minded, a Colloquium on International Playwriting featuring Laurent Muhleisen from Paris and Judith Miller from NYU.

The Water is Clear and Still is a performance installation that interweaves Liss Fain <http://www.lissfaindance.org> ’s imagistic, non-narrative choreography with the text of Jamaica Kincaid’s short stories from At the Bottom of the River. An impressive set and immersive sound environment surround the six dancers, the actor and the audience. A work of emotionally resonant, full-bodied movement and striking images, this performance installation is a continuous and non-repetitive event, with the audience moving at will inside the set and close to the performers. World Premiere | 7pm & 9pm (most nights, check ticketing for details) | $25 - 35

Has there ever been a moment when it all fell apart?
When everything was shattered, dismantled, destroyed?
Do the effects of that time (when things fell apart) still linger?
Z Space presents Joe Goode Performance Group <http://www.joegoode.org> in the world premiere of When We Fall Apart,a dance theater work that examines the intricate and fragile relationship between house and body, and the determination and resilience of the human spirit. Life (and the body that contains it) is impermanent and - like everything - eventually falls apart. Goode explores the motivations that keep us building, even as life might collapse around us, by weaving the real life stories of audience & community members into the work itself. Architect and collaborator Cass Calder Smith <http://ccs-architecture.com/v3/> provides a visual “house of art,” constructed to collapse, re-shape, and illuminate the songs, stories, and movement that take place within. Featuring original music composed and performed live by Ben Juodvalkis of the band Battlehooch <http://battlehooch.com/> . Presented and commissioned by Z Space.
