Pico arrived on the Artaud scene about two years after me. I'm guessing early 1980's. Everything was underdeveloped back then, but it was a great event when Pico got his studio.

Story number one - my first night in Project Artaud
In 1971, two art school students, Dave Lacher and myself, answered anad in the Chronicle for a studio for sale in the Mission. We met with a man named Joe Krysiak in the lobby (where the mailboxes are) of Artaud at the end of October. He took us to the available studio (currently Bernard's) which at that time was occupied by a guy named Roth (don't recall his first name).

Personal Story
In 1973, I was a student at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Clown College. There were around 40-50 of us, in a very intense program which went from 9 AM to 11 PM, every day but Sunday. We learned circus skills, makeup, wardrobe construction, dance and mainly clown routines.

Project Artaud 1978
I was accepted for my space number 115 in May. Prior to that I had been a member of the American Dance Asylum, hailing from my alma mater S.U.N.Y. at Brockport. Most famous member of that group is now Bill T. Jones. The leader/choreographer was Lois Welk, niece of Lawrence
